National Occupational Standards detail the range of
competencies needed to describe the diverse job roles in the
science, engineering and manufacturing technologies sectors.
The National Occupational Standards have a number of uses,
including recruitment, appraisal, promotion, identifying training
needs, succession planning etc, but their main use is for the
development of nationally recognised qualifications such as
National or Scottish Vocational Qualifications (N/SVQ’s)
