The Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies

Education and Training

This section gives you information on qualifications and advice on careers available in science, engineering and manufacturing.

  • Visit 14-19 Diplomas and GCSEs for information on these qualifications available to school students.
  • Use our Course & Provider Search facility if you are looking for the right science, engineering or manufacturing course for you.  It will also help you if you know the course you want but need to know who offers it.
  • Visit Progression Routes to chart a career in engineering.  Our route planner sets out the career structure and shows you what qualifications and training you need to get to the next level.  If you are looking at engineering as a career option you will see the many possibilities there are and how you can progress. If you are an employer you can use the planner as a handy tool to plan the training and development of your employees.  A wide range of employer fact sheets support the progression planner.  They explain job roles within the career structure and possible career paths.  You can also use fact sheets to find out about work-based learning programmes and vocational and academic qualifications.
  • The CoVEs section gives you details of colleges and training providers that have earned Centre of Vocational Excellence status in engineering/technology. Find out about the new Training Quality Standard – which providers have already achieved and how it benefits employers.
