Conservative Party draft schools manifesto – have your say

The Conservative Party has released its draft manifesto for schools.  Key proposals for science and engineering employers include:

Teacher Training::

  • minimum entry requirement GCSE Maths and English raised from C to B grade.
  • minimum 2:2 degree for state funded training.
  • government to repay student loans for maths and science graduates for as long as they remain teachers.
  • expand Teach First and introduce Teach Now and Troops to Teachers

Curriculum and Exam System:

  • ensure primary curriculum organised around (subject like) Maths, Science and History.
  • give Universities and Subject Academics more power over examinations.
  • setting up of technical academies across England, starting in at least the 12 biggest cities.
  • funding 400,000 new apprenticeship, college and other training places over 2 years.
  • enable schools to offer workplace training that engages young people.

You can comment on these, and all the proposals in the manifesto here

We welcome the focus on support for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects, and on improving the quality of teaching overall.  Further funding for training, integrated into school provision, will enable students to have a range of options suitable to their aspirations and abilities.
