UK Skills Competition Training
Managers needed!
Summary
In 2009 UK Skills took a team of 26
exceptionally skilled young people to compete at WorldSkills in
Calgary, Canada. At an emotional closing ceremony attended by
all 900 competitors from the 46 nations that took part, as well as
a further 6,000 team supporters and judges, it was announced that
the UK had won an amazing three gold and six bronze medals at
skills ranging from painting and decorating to floristry and
autobody repair. In addition the UK was also awarded 14
Medallions for Excellence given to competitors who achieve at least
500 points, deemed the world class standard.

Semta fully supports the skills competitions in our sector, and
is working closely with UK Skills to make the coming WorldSkills
competitions a success for UK engineering and science.

Key attributes of training managers
- outstanding expertise in specific vocational
skills
- exceptional performance together with the
skills to train and support talented young people to achieve
excellence
- demonstrated knowledge of international
standards and practices in particular skills gained within a range
of vocational and occupational settings
- willing and able to offer at least 50 days of
commitment (including some evenings and weekends) over each
two-year cycle
As a volunteer training manager you will:
- train and prepare competitors for the 2009
and 2011 skills competitions
- participate in the competition as a
designated expert for the UK
- contribute to the UK’s international standing
for world class standards
UK Skills are looking for training managers for
the following skills competitions:
- Mechatronics
- Mobile Robotics
