Group Training Associations
Semta works with Group Training Associations and other training
providers and they are key partners in the delivery of
Apprenticeships.
The Group Training Associations were first established by groups
of local employers in the 1960s, and there are
now upto 70 Engineering Group Training Associations
serving approximately 16,000 companies, estimated to employ
over 1 million people.
Semta have produced a directory providing key
contact details for many training providers and Group Training
Associations (GTAs) in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern
Ireland in addition to registered centres in
Scotland. The directory has been designed
for employers and individuals who require
assistance with training advice, apprenticeships or
improving skills within Engineering in addition to the
government sources of advice.
Many of the Group Training Associations listed in this
document have charitable status and while most groups still have
core engineering company membership and have maintained their
engineering expertise, their scope has broadened in line with
training and business demands. They are able to offer a wide range
of training provision and services, mainly to Small and Medium
Sized Enterprises (SMEs) who may have limited
budgets, including;
- NVQ assessments
- advising on workforce development
- analysing training needs
- providing health and safety training and guidance
- management training .
