The Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies

Semta's Role

Semta is responsible for developing, reviewing and revising National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the sector it represents. We are also tasked with drawing up apprenticeship frameworks which contain the necessary elements to provide employers with the skills they need. We do this by consulting widely with employers, trade associations and other stakeholders to make sure these standards and frameworks remain relevant and up to date.

It means that awarding bodies developing qualifications based on them, and training providers delivering them can have confidence that they are fit for purpose. Our NOS and frameworks go through a rigorous approval process and are recognised nationally by the qualifications authorities. Wherever they are located, your customers will know that the Semta-based products you are offering bear the industry-standard ‘hallmark’.

Providers and awarding bodies can benefit further from the validation processes which the National Skills Academy for Manufacturing is rolling out.
